Lifespan – 12 to 15 Years. Like many smaller dogs, the Maltese has a lengthy lifespan.

Activity Level – Moderate. They are agile dogs that enjoy a fair amount of romping and activity. Their speed surprises most because they are such small dogs but are still fairly quick when playing.

Potential Height – 8 to 10 Inches Tall. They are a very small dog even as adults.

Potential Weight – 6 to 9 Pounds. Maltese are one of the least heavy canine breeds. This makes them great for those who like lap dogs.

Barking – Moderate to High. Maltese get separation anxiety easily and should not be left alone often or they will bark a lot. They love their owners dearly and do not like to be away from their owners for great lengths of time.

Shedding – Barely. Maltese do not have an undercoat of fur. Although they do shed a little bit, they are still considered hypoallergenic by most people.

Family Friendly – Somewhat. They are friendly with almost all children. However they can lose their patience with younger children if they are being pestered or tormented.

Pet Friendly – Yes. They are animal friendly dogs. They are gentle and well mannered dogs.

They love being the center of attention and have no problem goofing off in order to gain affection. They are extremely intelligent and therefore easy to train.

Breed Origins –

Important Breed Information – Maltese dogs were thought to originate from the islands of Malta in the Mediterranean sea. The Maltese was commonly used to comfort people who were sick in Egypt and Greece. They are one of the earliest known “lap dogs.”

Leona Helmsley left 12 MILLION dollars to her dog in a trust fund. Coincidentally her dog was named “Trouble.” The trust fund also stated that the dog was to be buried alongside her and her husband in their mausoleum. She even left 3 Million for the care of the mausoleum. A judge later saw this as a little excessive and only allowed the dog to keep 2 Million. One can only imagine Trouble was howling out of anger that day.
